LHC Atom Smashes Energy Record
Published: 3/19/10
This morning the Large Hadron Collider was reactivated, sending two beams of protons around its 17 mile tunnel, where they will eventually smash two over 3.5 trillion volts of energy into one another making it the most powerful energy collision to date by over 300%. The quickly racing beams will result in a 7 trillion electron volt collision that will be the greatest energy collision to date in any man-made experiment.

New Quantum Object Can be Seen with Naked Eye
Published: 3/19/10
Scientists have created the largest "quantum state" object so far. The object is a quantum computer that breaks the conventional law of larger physics that one thing cannot occupy two different spaces at the same time. The machine is being hailed as the first principle component for what could become the first feasible quantum computer. While not a feasible computer in itself, the "quantum resonator," could replace ones and zeros with far faster computing capabilities that could result in a new generation of incredibly small, energy efficient computers with far more processing power than anything we currently have.

Invisibility Cloaks May be Fashion of the Future
Published: 3/18/10
"Deployable" invisibility screens have been around for some time, able to make an object invisible from one direction, but these objects have extremely limited applications, considering they only work in theory in extremely controlled environments. It seemed for a while the world of ground stealth technology would have to remain in the realm of science fiction and fantasy, but now scientists have developed a system which can conceal an object from any direction in 3D. The world may soon have a true invisibility cloak.

Regeneration Could Soon be a Reality
Published: 3/16/10
Scientists have discovered that there is a gene within us all that prevents fast healing and limb regeneration, and that it can be turned "off" in some mice. The discovery hopes to harbor in a new age where organ donation will not be required for patients to recover from damaged tissue, and we could grow our arms and legs back even if they were crippled beyond repair or removed entirely.

The "God Helmet"
Published: 3/15/10
In the University of Sudbury, Canada, there is a device that reportedly synthesizes paranormal experiences by manipulating the brain by using electromagnetic stimulation at specific and complex frequencies and patterns. Test subjects report with relative consistency that their experiences using the "God Helmet" are so profoundly spiritual that they feel absolutely real. But does this make illegitimate the experiences of those who simply had the experiences outside of Dr. Michael Persinger's lab?

Russia's New Flying Saucer Technology
Published: 3/14/10
Somehow escaping the attention of the mainstream, Russia has begun building production facilities under an aerial research and development company in the hopes of harboring a new age of incredibly powerful, fast, energy efficient, and stable vehicles. Current projections of what the vehicles will be capable of are staggering, but even more incredible is the similarities these vehicles share with commonly reported unidentified flying objects. And many analysts are saying this is no mere coincidence.

Cosmic Dust Discovered Aboard Spacecraft
Published: 3/9/10
It may not sound like much, but the discovery of interstellar dust aboard the Stardust spacecraft means the 2.9 billion mile journey undertaken by the craft in a mission to collect dust that may tell us about the formation of the solar system and give us a firmer grasp of what conditions were like at the creation of the universe itself. And now that scientists have conclusively found these dust particles within the trapping mechanism of one of these craft, it will provide insight into what these conditions were like.

Imagine Your Hand as a Touch Screen Computer
Published: 3/4/10
Imagine a world where your computer is not only at your fingertips, but directly controlled and interfaced on them. As technology got smaller, unfortunately screen size also suffered, but a new projection technology recently developed hopes to turn the viewing area on computers and personal devices such as cell phones into the user's own glowing skin. The technology was offered as a solution to problems many computer and personal device users have of small screens on smaller devices.

Anti Mosquito Laser Turrets
Published: 2/18/10
A recently developed tool has been announced that will be able to track and shoot mosquitoes in midair using lasers. The device was demonstrated recently, and claims that it can use an intense highly trained laser attached to an automated laser turret defense system to not only track the movements of mosquitoes, but zap them from a distance. In addition to being an incredibly futuristic pest control system, the mosquito laser defense system is expected to help reduce the death rate in countries where malaria death rates are staggering.

How do you make Ice with Fire?
Published: 2/16/10
The prospect of making fire with ice is relatively simple, but how do you make ice with fire? With the ice you can convert the clear material into a lens that then acts as a magnifying glass of the sun's rays, but the prospect of making ice using fire is much more difficult. Scientists, have, however, discovered a way piquing the curiosity of many and establishing the truly mysterious nature of water.

The Inner Frontier
Published: 12/23/09
It seems the frontier to be explored the most this century has not been the deepest reaches of space, as much fiction written in the past hundred years would have predicted, but rather using technology to explore the inner workings of the mind. This year alone several machines have come out that translate thought into electronic impulses, and it appears now another machine has been created, one that will allow speech to be transmitted by thought alone to computers.

If this is true, soon we may be able to transpose images from our own memories (and even dreams) into videos. Thought testimony will soon be seen in courtrooms, as witnesses “recall” in full detail the incidents in question. But perhaps most importantly (and frighteningly) the rift between our minds and the eyes of others will be breached.

"Thinking" Supercomputer Now Conscious as a Cat
Published: 11/19/09
Incredibly, a super computer has been created by IBM that has the thinking capability of a cat at the click of a mouse. Of course the supercomputer, dubbed C2 by the research team putting it together, has raised some serious ethical questions, for example: When is it no longer ethical to turn it off? Though the computer thinks as much as a cat does, it is still in the early stages of development. C2 is quickly developing, however, and has already surpassed the 4 percent mark of human capability. Soon, it is estimated, a computer will exist that thinks as well as a human’s cerebral cortex. The only problem? They still don’t know how it works.

After scouring the internet for information on CERN, something keeps popping up again and again, and it’s difficult to believe no one has proposed it yet. Of course while this is purely speculative, is it possible that CERN’s LHC could be haunted? At first this may seem like a theory without evidence, but with the theories being thrown around by scientists about time travel, Ghosts don’t seem that unlikely at this point.

The idea of a space elevator is one of the most important concepts toward space travel mankind has ever considered, and now NASA has developed a method that may actually bring that concept to reality. One of the things still needed? A robot light enough for the job. Since batteries are notoriously heavy, the robot will need to be powered by something else. What’s more Sci-fi than a robot climbing a cable into space? The robot is powered by lasers. That’s the idea behind NASA’s contest for ingenuity. The prize? Nine hundred thousand dollars, and another three million for anyone who can one up them.
