- Wiccans Don’t Deserve Scorn [Direct Link
I’m not Wiccan myself, but I do considered myself Neo-Pagan and have for several years. Many of my beliefs and practices have germinated from Wiccan philosophy. Wicca is a Neo-Pagan religion (as Catholicism is a Christian religion) that honors both a God and a Goddess, celebrates the turn of the seasons and the phases of the moon and seeks to bring the practitioner in closer harmony with nature. Nowhere do Wiccans acknowledge the Devil, much less worship him. While I don’t expect these facts to be common knowledge, I do expect someone with internet access and five minutes of time on their hands to make friends with Google and learn that no, neither Satanists nor Wiccans are particularly fond of the other group, and yes, both are sick and tired of being confused for the other. When I first researched Wicca somehow I was able to sort decent information about the religion from your basic internet idiocy, even though at the time I had little knowledge of anything but my family’s faith. This task was clearly insurmountable to Sandra Scibelli, who decided she was the expert when it came to “devil-worship.”

- Is John Edward the real deal? [Direct Link
American celebrity psychic medium John Edward is currently in Joburg for a series of shows, and the question on a number of skeptics' lips is: Is this guy for real, or is he a greedy charlatan, preying on gullible people desperate to connect with departed loved ones? I managed to wangle a chat with him on the eve of his shows at Gold Reef City's Lyric Theatre, and can honestly say I'm none the wiser. Edward is an affable guy, as audiences will know from his popular TV show Crossing Over with John Edward. He's young, likeable (even though he says he has to maintain a certain emotional distance from audience members to ensure an effective "connection" with their relatives) and can perhaps be described as the psychic equivalent of a televangelist - the rock star of the paranormal realm, if you like.

- What’s going on in there? [Direct Link
Warren Art and Soul is an educational and healing center for the visual, sacred and healing arts. Psychic and tarot card readings, reiki sessions and workshops are held there. But according to the medium, not many people know what actually goes on in the studio. Many people pass it, but not many understand the business is more than a few women hovering over a glass ball. Ms. Mura personally believes our childhood circumstances and environment can alter our perceptions; however, ultimately we have complete control of our reality. She uses her services to heal people and allow them to free themselves of self-inflicted barriers. “We are the authors of our entire life. We write the script,” she said.

- Without Answers, Brazil Senate Summons Psychic to Find Out Blackout's Causes [Direct Link
At the request of senator Arthur Virgílio, the leader of the opposition party PSDB (Brazilian Social Democracy) the Brazilian senate is summoning a psychic service to help elucidate what caused the massive blackout last week, which left 18 of Brazil's 26 states in the dark. The esoteric foundation Cacique Cobra Coral (Coral Snake Chief), which has a department in charge of forecasting and changing the weather has been called to assist. Twenty people, most of them experts in energy and weather are also being summoned by the senate. Virgílio says he is not happy that no explanation has been found until now for the disaster, more than a week after the power outage that affected over 60 million people in Brazil and Paraguay.

- Abduction happens [Direct Link
If one believes in abstract notions like kismet and the interconnectedness of all things, then one might also take note of the serendipity of timing — the Fourth Annual Ventura County UFO Festival takes place in the same month that The Fourth Kind, about alien abduction, opened in movie theaters across the country. It’s been more than 30 years since Close Encounters of the Third Kind introduced ufologist J. Alan Hynek’s system of classifying people’s experiences with unidentified flying objects, and interest in the subject of UFOs appears to be reaching a crescendo. According to Hynek’s system, a close encounter of the first kind is a sighting, the second kind is a sighting accompanied by some other physical phenomenon such as radiation or radio interference, and the third kind is a sighting of an animate being in association with a UFO.

- Special Report: UFO Activity in Nevada [Direct Link
A national organization says Nevada is currently a hot spot for UFO activity. And it says one is ongoing with video evidence and witnesses. The town of Ely lies near the center of this case and investigators think that mining and electrical power may play a key. Mark Easter is the head of the state wing for MUFON – the Mutual UFO Network. It’s Easter’s job to be the ‘boots on the ground’ in UFO sightings throughout Nevada. He has to separate possible fact from fantasy and he says people who see objects are not always happy with his findings. “The reason being is we do follow a code of ethics. We’re gong tell you we try to identify.” Easter says 95% of sightings can be explained as manmade or naturally occurring phenomena. It’s the 5% we should wonder about.

- Mysterious Sea Creature Spotted In Florida Canal [Direct Link
Russ Sittloh says a mysterious serpent-like creature that's at least 20 feet long has been swimming in the canal behind his Madeira Beach home and he wants to find out what it is. "The head will come up and then it will disappear and then the next thing you know, you'll see a couple rolls behind it," Sittloh said. Sittloh has named the creature "Normandy Nessie" after the road he lives on. The 78-year-old retired engineer has also set up a camera to capture video of the creature and so far he's recorded "Normandy Nessie" six times. "When I first saw it (in April) I couldn't believe what I was seeing. It was so unreal." But Sittloh is not the only person who claims to have seen a mysterious serpent-like creature swimming around Madeira Beach. Bill Van Aken and his wife, Maria, say they have both seen it.

- Cryptozoology museum opens on Congress Street [Direct Link
It was another rainy afternoon on Congress Street in Portland. From behind a large first-floor window, an eight foot tall model of Bigfoot watched the traffic roll by from behind a plastic shrub, trying to make sense of his new home - the International Cryptozoology Museum in Portland’s Parkside neighborhood. Since the grand opening, there has been a steady flow of people through the museum. Loren Coleman believes this success is indicative of a growing societal acceptance of Cryptozoology, the study and search for “hidden animals” like Bigfoot and the Loch Ness Monster. “In the beginning, interest was small,” he explained, “but then you have things like the ‘X-Files’ using the word Cryptozoology for the first time on TV, and it’s slowly over the years become a subject of interest and a part of our culture.”

- Remote viewing used by government psychic spies [Direct Link
Remote viewing involves a set of precise protocols used by the U.S. military and CIA to develop psychic spies. As bizarre as it may seem, top government officials have dabbled in ESP and the psychic realm for many decades. The first government-sponsored remote viewing program began in 1970. Remote viewing is a technique whereby trained individuals enter into a meditative state to access subtle levels of consciousness in which they are able to somehow sense remote locations and describe what they see there. The ability to view objects remotely has clear advantages for intelligence gathering.

- The end is near and it's nothing new [Direct Link
What has become known as the 2012 phenomenon comprises a range of different beliefs and proposals, all of which predict that cataclysmic or world-changing events will occur in the year 2012. This could occur on or around Dec. 21, which is said to be the end-date of the 5,125-year-long ancient Mayan calendar. This idea has been derived from various theories about "ancient astronauts," speculative interpretations of mythology and beliefs in numerology. Many folks believe that on Dec. 21, 2012, the Earth and its inhabitants will undergo a positive physical or spiritual transformation and that 2012 could mark the beginning of a new era of enlightenment or existance. Others believe that the 2012 year will mark the beginning of the dreaded apocalypse and the world will come to an end. Both ideas have been spread around the world in numerous books, TV documentaries, Web sites and other groups.

- Eerie howling... and a train ride to terror [Direct Link
If you're a lover of ghost stories, you’ll be familiar with a handful of tales concerning spooks and phantoms cropping up in Dorset. But if you thought you’d heard the whole story, think again. When Roger Guttridge decided to write his 15th book on Dorset, he favoured the subject of the supernatural – but wanted to produce something that was “more than just another county ghost book”. So he decided to not only re-examine and update those well-known stories, but introduce many lesser-known tales too. The result is Paranormal Dorset, a book crammed with seven chapters of ghostly goings-on in this neck of the woods. Of course he notes traditional haunts for phantoms, such as inns, hotels and manor houses, but there is much more.

The analysis will be done on Friday and reported at an upcoming society meeting. Presler and the Stockton group conducted its first investigation at the old Super Mold Co. structure at 420 N. Sacramento St., just north of Lockeford Street. They checked out the place from about 10:45 p.m. all the way to 4 a.m., Presler said.

- The end is near? [Direct Link
The world probably won’t come crashing to an end in 2012, although many people may be wondering. Rockford psychic Denise Guzzardo’s phone has been ringing off the hook for the past year, with people asking her about the predicted end of the world. “It’s like Y2K. People seem to have anxiety,” Guzzardo said. With the debut of the Hollywood blockbuster “2012” even more people are taking interest in the Mayan calendar. According to the movie, the world ends on Dec. 21, 2012, as supposedly predicted by Mayan end time prophecies. The science fiction disaster film features John Cusack as a divorced father trying to save his family as solar eruptions destabilize the earth’s crust.

"But it wasn't moving," adds her husband. "I'm looking at him and he sees it out my window and I turn and look and caught just the tail end of it before it disappeared," says Heather. As they drove they watched the lights, stationary, seemingly hanging in the sky, blinking off, then reappearing. With a mixture of growing excitement and curiousity they pulled off the road at the junction.

- Beyond the grave sighting? [Direct Link
This is the ghostly picture taken at the former Roe Valley Hospital showing a nurse like figure holding a baby that has put paranormal sceptics in a spin, and sparked fresh supernatural investigations into the grounds. The photo, taken by a night time LCDI security guard just a few months ago, has been deemed by experts as authentic and reignited examinations into the ghoulish goings on at the former workhouse. The picture was passed onto paranormal investigators at the Paranormal Society Ireland who analysed the photo for two to three months before releasing it. LCDI manager Damien Corr, the first person to be shown the picture, says he was taken aback by the image.
"I am a sceptic but let's just say the picture was disconcerting enough for me to advise our security guard to pass it onto the paranormal society."

For more than 150 years, the Pensacola Lighthouse has beamed out light to ships as far as 27 miles away. On Wednesday, the lore of the lighthouse will beam across the entire country. "Ghost Hunters," the Syfy channel's most-watched program, will air an episode on the Pensacola Lighthouse at Pensacola Naval Air Station. Last week, "Ghost Hunters" aired a short segment on supposed paranormal activity at the Pensacola Historical Museum, which is housed in the 124-year-old Arbona building in downtown Pensacola. Though the "Ghost Hunters" team found very little at the museum — they did hear a few unexplained sounds upstairs — promos promise plenty of otherworldly action at the Pensacola Lighthouse.

- How Men Really Stare at Goats [Direct Link
Joesph McMoneagle was awarded the Legion of Merit for his service as a U.S. Army psychic spy, for “producing crucial and vital intelligence unavailable from any other source.” McMoneagle's how-to guide, "Remote Viewing Secrets: A Handbook," is a down-to-Earth instructional manual on the subject available from the Mobile Public Library at either the Moorer or West Regional branches. Apparently, remote viewing is something almost anyone can do. Although mystics have been paranormally collecting information for millenia, in 1972 physicists Harold Puthoff and Russell Targ formally developed a standardized, scientific method for gathering intelligence paranormally.

- Berks psychic expert sees boost for ESP, related paranormal phenomena from Clooney film [Direct Link
Dale E. Graff never stared at goats. But the Tilden Township man did train American troops and civilians to read minds, interpret dreams and use other psychic abilities in an effort to learn Soviet secrets during the Cold War. That military program he founded and led is now portrayed in the movie, "The Men Who Stare at Goats," starring George Clooney. The film focuses on a team of Americans with psychic abilities who are learning to harness their powers. Among their experiments is trying to kill goats by staring at the animals. While Graff said the filmmakers took liberties with the facts for the sake of entertainment, the film is bringing attention to an important project that was top secret while it operated.

- 'Mystical Journey' stresses healing from within [Direct Link
Wanda L. Winters finds the term "fortune teller" distasteful. She charges a fee for the psychic and spiritual counseling she administers to those seeking her help, but said she's not in it for the money. "I'm here to help people find out who they are, help them take back their power and use it. It's called owning your power," the Alexandria Bay resident said between readings at Sunday's Mystical Journey Holistic and Psychic Faire at the Best Western University Inn. "A lot of people depend on psychics for guidance, and that's a horrible thing. It's up to them to do what is right for them."

- Facts Behind 'Men Who Stare at Goats' [Direct Link
Can people really influence the physical world with thought alone? And if so, dare we use that power for evil, instead of good? Or will the effort come back to haunt us? That is the quandary posed by the film “The Men Who Stare at Goats,” and, even more so, by the book of the same name that inspired the film. The film presents a largely fictitious story based on all-too-real projects and programs conducted by various agencies of the government. Very little of it is literally true, yet many of the stranger events in the film happened in a manner similar to the one portrayed.

- Group gives ghost hunting crash course at Rock Ford [Direct Link
The kitchen at Rock Ford Plantation was filled Sunday afternoon with people chatting, sipping cider and munching on ginger snaps. But on a night in July, someone in the kitchen apparently wanted Bridget Gallagher dead. Gallagher, co-founder of The East Coast Anomaly Investigators, was posing questions in the kitchen that night, hoping to evoke reactions from the ghosts reputed to haunt the historic mansion. Although nothing unusual occurred at the time, a playback of a digital recording reveals a voice hissing "kill her" in the background. "That doesn't stop me. It doesn't stop me at all," Gallagher said Sunday. "But I don't think they like me down there."
