Time To Audit The Federal Reserve

I received this e-mail from the Ron Paul campaign and it made me think. So many complain about being stuck in a rut and blame the government for the wrongdoings. But when a situation arises, the same people who are in misery do nothing to change this situation. The e-mail, which I pasted below, is asking for our help by supporting the Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009. Ron Paul's stance believes that the Federal Reserve should be audited by Congress. But since its creation in 1913, the Federal Reserve has been omitted from inspections and refuses to tell Congress which institutions have received taxpayers bail out money.

This is our money and we deserve to have a say in its distribution. But unfortunately, it seems as if taking the time to support a positive benefit movement is not worth most people's time. We have a chance to make a difference and I urge you all to sign a petition.

May 12, 2009

Folks,

Ron Paul needs your help with HR 1207, otherwise known as the “Federal Reserve Transparency Act of 2009”.

For those of you who are not familiar with this bill, it would require the Comptroller General to conduct a thorough audit of the Federal Reserve.  According to Campaign for Liberty's fact sheet on HR 1207:

  • The Federal Reserve enjoys a monopoly over the flow of our money and credit but has never been completely transparent and accountable to Congress since its creation in 1913.
  • In addition to an over $13 trillion national debt (with each American's share being more than $36,000), Congress, the Treasury, and the Federal Reserve have put us on the hook for almost $10 trillion in bailouts and loans.  Yet, the Fed refuses to tell Congress which financial institutions have received these funds.

Jesse Benton has been working tirelessly to enlist cosponsors for HR 1207, but he can’t do it alone.  As a member of the Financial Services Committee, Congressman Paul Kanjorski can be instrumental in bringing HR 1207 out of committee and to the House floor for a vote.  We need Congressman Kanjorski to sign on as a cosponsor of this bill, and Jesse is asking for our help in appealing to Congressman Kanjorski.

Here is a list of things you can do to help:

  1. Petitions do make a difference.  If you haven’t signed a petition asking Paul Kanjorski to cosponsor HR 1207, please do.
  2. See if any of your friends, neighbors or coworkers are willing to sign a petition as well.  Many will when asked.
  3. Deliver as many petitions as possible to Paul Kanjorski’s congressional office.  Delivery in person makes the biggest impression.  If you can’t visit an office in person, perhaps another supporter or someone you know can.  When all else fails, drop them in the mail and follow up with a phone call.
  4. Send me an email letting me know about your efforts.
  5. If you have delivered petitions and still want to do more, continue collecting and delivering petitions.
  6. If you are wondering if you can do more, please reply to this message or email me at david.jahn@campaignforliberty. com and let me know of your desire to help us with this effort.  We do have plans for more which require the help of dedicated people in district 11.

Also, please let me know if you or someone you know is interested in organizing the HR 1207 efforts in District 11.  That would be most helpful.

With your help, I’m sure we can persuade Congressman Kanjorski to join us in cosponsoring this bill.  I look forward to working with all of you on this effort.  Let’s not fail Dr. Paul on this important piece of legislation.
