Akasha is a Sanskrit term to express the idea of the mythological and elemental idea of the aether, or in other words a plane wrapping around all the universe. It can be translated as "space", "sky" and "aether". The Akashic records are a mystical knowledge base located in the non-physical plane, the Akasha. This idea is present all over the world in the old traditions and seems to be the source of great knowledge. For example, the Sanskrit itself is said to come from this knowledge base. Several people have used it to get information about the world: Edgar Cayce used it to heal people and get information about the legendary Atlantis. It was also used by Nostradamus to predict the future (though he used the term "Oracle" from the ancient Greeks). Akasha can also be seen as a supra mind or spirit entity which can be call "god."
The Akashic records are a type of infinite library without any concept of time, therefore all knowledge, whether it be past , present or future is accessible. Edgar Cayce described it as a gigantic library where every person is writing their own life. It is also said that there is different kinds of libraries, for each kind of subject. It would be difficult to ignore these libraries and conclude that they are only imaginary. Indeed they are known all over the world with a quite similar descriptions, and several people have used them for spectacular uses (Edgar Cayce for example). Scientists in the beginning of the twentieth century were trying to study the aether, which they believed was the support of light waves (as the material plane is the support for material waves (such as sound waves). They decided that this venue of research wasn't necessary in order to prove their theories so it was eventually forgotten. Now some scientists are returning to this idea because they are realizing that it explains some unrecognized facts very well.
Dr Melvin Morse, a pediatrician and neuroscientist studying near death experiences of children, did research focusing on a specific part of the brain, the right temporal lobe. He found that this part can connect to an outside database to get information and it becomes activated when the body is almost dead. Some people can activate it upon command if they control their mind. For example it can be activated through prayer or meditation; He explains that this database contains all the collective information of the world (like the Akashic records). Furthermore, he studied lots of paranormal experiences and concluded that these are nicely explained by this new theory about a common consciousness (the library). Reincarnation, ghosts, haunted houses are all explainable by this theory. It should be studied in greater depth as it can help us understand the universe.
