43) Corydalis ambigua

This flowering plant (also known as 'yan hu suo') is found in the woods and meadows of northern Japan and beyond in lowland territories and mountains. The plant's history can be traced back to more than 1,000 years as a source of treatment for pain control.  Some of the properties associated with this plant include analgesic, antispasmodic, astringent, diuretic, sedative, and tonic. The plant has also been linked to contraceptive use. It is the root that possesses analgesic, sedative, and antispasmodic powers. When taking a look at this plant, it has shown a rather high potency in relation to antifertility drugs.

44) Datura metel

There are other names that you will find this shrub-like herb called, including "Devil's trumpet," 'yang jin hua' and "downy thorn-apple." Grown annually – large flowers emerge from this plant (usually white or yellow in color with striking purple accents). When looking for this plant, you will find it in India, China, and other parts of South East Asia. Today, it is a popular addition to landscapes and gardens in North America.

As one of the 50 fundamental herbs associated with traditional Chinese medicine, one of its uses is to take the dry flower (when it is violet in color) and roll it up and use in the same manner as a cigar. It has been proven to relieve the symptoms of asthma, such as wheezing. However, it is important to note that the plant may bring about toxic results if ingested. A patient may experience headaches, hallucinations, and convulsions. The skin may appear flushed and some people have also slipped into a coma. Just remember that ingesting just one leaf could leave you with severe side effects.

45) Pseudolarix

The sole species of this monotypic genus (belonging to the family Pinaceae) is called Pseudolarix amabilis, which if often referred to as 'Golden Larch.' Native to the eastern part of China, this plant is located in the mountains of southern Anhui, Fujian, and Hunan – amongst other regions. The appearance of the Golden Larch is rather attractive – finding a place in the world of ornamental trees decorating large gardens and local parks. Since it is able to tolerate the heat and humidity of the summer season, you could find one of these beauties in the southeastern part of the United States.

As an ingredient in medicinal treatments, the plant is commonly used in Chinese herbalism, where the stem bark works wonders in combating ringworm. The bark also helps to fight against fungus growth of parasites, such as Epidermophyton and Trichphyton. Other uses of this plant include taking the wood and using it to build boats, bridges, and furniture.

46) Rehmannia glutinosa

Also known as 'dihuang' and 'gan dihuang,' this Chinese herb has found a place in treating tinnitus and hearing loss, as it has been discovered that there are components in the plant that are effective in eliminating the free radicals that cause noise-related hearing loss. The fresh or processed roots of the plant also contain beneficial elements, such as iridoids, glycosides, and carotenoids.
