Ever since the creation of the cathode ray tube in 1931 there has been an earthly invasion by aliens into our living rooms. Prior to that, thanks to the radio we heard global wars of all worlds broadcast into our living rooms by Marconi’s miracle of invention, radio. The very thought of an alien race visiting Earth brought in a new breed of beings whose limits were confined only by the limits of imagination. But art imitates life, and vice-versa.

To solidify her hold on the west coast region of Ireland, Grace took Richard Burke as her second husband. Following the passing of Donal, she had already accumulated five castles and several islands in Clew Bay. However, acquiring Rockfleet Castle located in the northeast side of the bay would strengthen her presence in the region. Castle Rockfleet happened to be owned by Richard Burke.

With fears of 2012 on the horizon, and many interpreting the Mayan Calendar as the last days of humanity, it’s fun and important to take a look at doomsdays throughout history so we can contrast the differences and similarities between this upcoming 2012 prophecy and previous prophecies. Interestingly enough, the earliest account of a doomsday prophecy was an Assyrian clay tablet from 2800 BC citing moral decay as a sign of the end times. Almost five thousand years later the ritual of waiting for the end continues.

Most of the information surrounding the Queen of Carthage (Dido) comes from the Roman poet Virgil, who described the woman in his publications of the Aeneid. Dido (also known in some circles as Elissa) was known as the founder and first Queen of Carthage to the ancient Greeks and Romans – in what is now referred to as Tunisia. Living in the Mediterranean around 470 BC, she is the stuff of legends, who ultimately died because of love.

In mythology, there are many things that are capable of turning someone to stone. The legendary Basilisk, or even the dreaded Medusa can simply gaze upon their foes and turn them heart first into a statue. A group of stone creatures have been perplexing scientists for years, though no magical monsters are suspected in this particular case.

Though the world is celebrating the destruction of the Berlin Wall twenty years ago today, there are still several mysteries left over from a time when the US and the Soviet Union were engaged in quite possibly the strangest war ever waged. Both sides engaged in military research the likes of which would have been more at home in a science fiction novel than a history book. It is perhaps for this very reason that The Cold War is so rarely covered in detail in the mainstream. “The Moscow Signal,” as it became known, is no exception.

It may sound incredible, but there is actually a light bulb that has never burned out despite over 107 years of illumination. Built in 1901, the Centennial Light is located in Livermore, California, and is maintained by the Livermore-Pleasanton Fire Department. Perhaps even more incredible is the massive feud that has been burning over the longest lasting light bulb and its competitors. The angry letters and rumors have sparked quite a few people to roll their eyes at the situation. We’ll shed some light on this controversy, and the secret to the longest lasting bulbs on Earth.

CERN’s LHC is making the news again as the project runs into yet another snag. With the program about to go back online after two failed attempts to find the boson or “god” particle, workers at CERN were shocked to find that a bird had dropped a bit of baguette into the $10 billion machine earlier today. Had the machine been activated without removing the obstruction it would have gone into “shut-down mode.”

Blackbeard the infamous pirate was known to purposefully elevate his level of notoriety and strike fear into those who came in contact with him. He capitalized off of his already large, tall stature and imposing braided black beard, which he tied with ribbons. To enhance his appearance, he lit cannon fuses dipped in lime water or salt peter, and tucked them away under the edge of his hat (or beard). The sight was quite intimidating, as smoke would surround his head.

Blackbeard came in contact with another known pirate, Stede Bonnet sometime during late 1717 or early 1718 – a 'gentleman pirate' that amused Edward. He brought him aboard his ship (the 'Revenge') and enjoyed his company. At this time, he commanded four ships and was in charge of more than 300 men.

The brilliant thinker, writer, and scientific pontificator of his time Charles Fort once said, “Everything is just the proper hat to wear for a while.” Perhaps no scientific idiom has held against the test of time better than this one. Charles Fort, born in Albany New York. Though he did poorly in school, Forte filled his days with early naturalism and studying from books. To know of Charles Fort is to know the history of the post-spiritualist heart of paranormal study.

The idea of a zombie apocalypse is generally sequestered to the realm of fiction. Films such as “28 Days Later” and “Dawn of the Dead” are thought to be an excellent fantasy for those looking for an escape to a world free from all the complications of modern life where the only thing one must worry about is their own survival from an ever growing horde of enemies. But is it possible a zombie apocalypse could really happen? The reality is more terrifying than we previously thought.

Viral marketing campaigns are apparently an integral part of paranormal research these days. It seems every other new movie that comes out is in some way connected to a deep dark paranormal legend that no one has heard about except those directly associated with the film. Of course this is merely fun and games, and generally leads to good storytelling, but these campaigns can be so persistent and convincing that sifting through the hoaxes can waste lots of valuable time. Such is the case with the Nome Alaska Alien Abduction story.

Does the image to the left look familiar? According to several people around the internet, this man has been appearing in their dreams seemingly out of nowhere. Who is this man? The phenomena has been regarded as everything from a Jungian archetype that manifests in our dreams to fulfill some psychological need to an attempt at mass mind control. Or is there something else to this man? Some have even suggested that he is a spiritual entity, or “dream surfer” that moves from conscious mind to conscious mind with purposes unknown. The answer to this man’s identity may surprise you.

Cern’s Large Hadron Collider is the closest thing the mainstream public is currently aware of that closely resembles a mad scientist’s laboratory and doomsday device all rolled up into one. Ever since the Supercolliding Superconductor met its fate in 1993, the search for observable data about the Higg’s Boson has been met with a string of incredibly bizarre bad luck. This bad luck has led some scientists to speculate that there may perhaps be a more dramatic explanation than just sheer chance. Could the LHC be causing a paradox that ultimately affects itself to ensure it is never switched on successfully?
