CERN’s LHC is making the news again as the project runs into yet another snag. With the program about to go back online after two failed attempts to find the boson or “god” particle, workers at CERN were shocked to find that a bird had dropped a bit of baguette into the $10 billion machine earlier today. Had the machine been activated without removing the obstruction it would have gone into “shut-down mode.”

Police probed claims by psychics

Police have defended an investigation into unfounded claims by psychics that a man who took his own life had actually been murdered. Dyfed-Powys Police said they had a responsibility to victims and families to investigate all deaths thoroughly. They were reacting to reports that they started an inquiry after psychics told 32-year-old Carlos Assaf's family he had been killed by gangsters. A verdict of suicide was later recorded on Mr Assaf, of Lampeter, Ceredigion.

Crystal Ball Boom: Psychics, Tarot Card Readers Profit in Tough Economy

Fortune-tellers, tarot card readers and psychics are reporting an uptick in business during the current economic downturn as people look for guidance, employment advice and a window into their personal economic future. In the past, the majority of customers flocked to psychics for advice on their relationships and love lives, but the questions today revolve mostly around finding a job and money. Psychics at the Psychic Eye Bookshop in Sherman Oaks say their business is being driven by fear today about the economy and their clients' financial security. And while many might view astrology or fortune telling as a luxury service, many medims say their business is holding steady and — and in some cases doing even better — as people look for guidance in the difficult economic times.

Relieved I'm not crazy over UFOs

I noticed last week's article and photo on UFO sightings in the local area and finally feel relieved I'm not crazy after all. In November 1992 I was delivering newspapers in the early evening, I had just delivered a paper to a house on Little Sutton Road. I picked up my bike, looked up and saw this large, fluorescent-green ball of light hovering still in the dark sky above, about 100ft up. I stopped and stared at it, making sure I didn't blink my eyes, I wanted to look around to see if any of the cars driving by had noticed it. Then suddenly it left, not straight up, or after a blink of my eyelids, but across the sky and into the distance at a super fast speed.

A Yeovil man believes he may have spotted a UFO flying above the town last night - although he is perfectly aware that it was actually Bonfire Night. Gary Alexander told the Express that at just after 10.30pm last night he saw two golden orange/yellow star-like objects drifting across the town in a west to east direction. "They were no more than two degrees apart, one following the other," he said. "They were around 20 degrees above the horizon and brighter than Venus at its brightest. After about a minute to a minute and a half, the objects began to fade in the south-east."

Richard Gogin was with his dog, Rommel, in the grounds of Marks Hall, Coggeshall, when he saw a shape in the sky. He said: “I was calling my dog and just above him, I saw a white-hot triangular shape. It was moving extremely fast. I tracked it for about four seconds and it disappeared as if someone had turned off a light switch. I have never seen an aircraft move like that.”

UFO researchers are back in Las Vegas this weekend for the 7th annual UFO Crash Retrieval Conference being held at the Tuscany. Around the world, other governments have opened up their UFO files, including Britain's Ministry of Defense. But the U.S. government says it has no classified files to make public. Conference organizer Ryan Wood says the world shouldn't hold its breath waiting for the Pentagon to come clean. In the meantime, he adds, it's more important than ever for people in this much-maligned field to demonstrate skepticism where it's appropriate.

Iraqi security forces are once again under intense international scrutiny, this time for using a strained budget to purchase over 1,500 ADE 651 Units at a cost of up to $60,000 a piece despite the fact that many say it can’t possibly work. The ADE 651 is being sold as an electronic bomb sniffing device capable of detecting bombs from far away through a method many would recognize as almost identical to dousing, practiced for hundreds of years by “water witches” to find everything from water to gold.

New developments have arisen in the case of 11 year old Lisa, who is still missing after three witnesses say they were all four chased by mysterious beams of light in the middle of the woods. The chilling encounter spurred a nationwide search across the Ural mountains of Russia, where UFO sightings are commonplace. Since neither the girl, nor her body have been discovered, some are wondering if her disappearance could have been a supernatural occurrence. Incredibly, this is not the first time the Ural mountains have been associated with mysterious beams of light and the death or disappearance of a witness. It has, in fact, happened to nine other people, all dead.

When you claim to have film of a buffalo being beamed up into a UFO, then you can expect to attract plenty of attention. North Hampshire pensioner Derek Bridges has this week found himself in the local and national spotlight after word spread of his weird out-of-this-world experience. The 69-year-old retired airport worker told The Gazette he witnessed the strange sighting from his window at The Green, in Overton, in late September. His video shows two bright lights hovering over Laverstoke Park Farm in Overton, where water buffalo are kept. The footage has been passed to UFO organisations across the world and is being described as “the Holy Grail” for UFO enthusiasts.

The recent spate of other worldly sightings show no sign of diminishing, and now a Longford man and his sceptical wife can be added to the band of converts. The man, who does not wish to be named said, “It was incredible, I saw them on Halloween night clear as anything, hovering over the Longford estate. They disappeared, but were soon back at around 9pm. I can only describe them as balls of orange light, that were there one minute and nowhere to be seen the next.”

Ghosts, if they really do exist, do not operate like Santa Claus. While the latter loads up his sleigh but once a year to bring toys and joy to the world, spirits of the dead are not bound by any specific time frame or schedule. Just ask author and paranormal investigator Dale Kaczmarek. "Ghosts just don't come out on Halloween. They're pretty much there year-round," he said. Then why do people only seem to be interested in things that go bump in the night when Oct. 31 rolls around? "It goes all the way back to the ancient druids and the Celts and the pagans," Kaczmarek said. "This is the time of year it was said that spirits of the dead were supposed to walk the earth."

First up is the Buffalo Bill Museum in Golden, Colorado where a full bodied apparition of a cowboy was spotted, along with a white mist that could knock you for a loop, suicidal dolls that randomly jump off shelves in the Gift Shop, and other various bumps and thumps. Guest investigator this week was Eddie McClintock of Syfy’s Warehouse 13. Setting out with the thermal imager, Eddie joined Jay and Grant in the Ye Olde Gift Shoppe to investigate those suicidal dolls. As Grant stared at a ceiling mounted heating unit and speculated over whether that was the cause of the doll hurling, Eddie wandered off to the next room with the imager. No, he didn’t find anything but he returned to report that he felt really creepy in the next room, which is no big surprise, I get the feeling that Eddie feels creepy in a lot of places. Entering the next room Jay and Grant found massive doses of EMFs coming off the cell towers that apparently now surround the grave of Buffalo Bill.
