Aquia Church
In Stafford, Virginia, the Aquia Church has a reputation for being the most haunted church in the state. Paranormal buffs often pay a visit to the site when hunting for ghosts and other unexplainable activity. The ghostly details are said to have started only just a couple of months after the church was completed during the late 1730’s. People have documented hearing strange sounds or seeing orbs of light in the air.
Many have seen ghostly apparitions on the premises. One apparition was described as being a woman with long, blond hair, who supposedly lost her life in the church belfry. It is said that at least one death can be linked to the strange events that take place at the church. In the past, the Cavalier on the Hill (located at Virginia Beach) was once a single hotel, but is now two separate establishments that often grab the attention of paranormal enthusiasts. At its most popular, the hotel was a watering hole for Hollywood bigwigs, notable authors, comedians, musicians, and politicians. Inside, the hotel was beautiful and provided a spectacular view for guests. Fort Monroe
In Hampton, Virginia, you will find Fort Monroe, which has its fair share of paranormal tales that involve well-known spirits and a couple of lesser-known ghosts. One of the most famous of the bunch is probably the ghost of former President Abraham Lincoln. At one time, he had lived at the site and it is said that his ghost, as well as the ghost of another president (Ulysses S. Grant) have been spotted on more than one occasion. Some witnesses have reported seeing the two presidents in discussion. Another known ghost reported to haunt Fort Monroe is the President of the Confederacy, Jefferson Davis. He was actually held captive and endured torture at the Fort because he was suspected of playing a role in Lincoln's assassination.
Belle Boyd Cottage
When you visit the former home of the female, Confederate spy known as "Belle Boyd," will you be able to feel the presence of her ghost? Some swear that she still haunts the premises. Belle Boyd Cottage is found at 101 Chester St in New Market, Virginia.
