If you call Alabama your home or are planning a trip to the area, you might want to exercise some of your paranormal curiosity and visit some of the haunted locations scattered across the state. Whether you are heading for Five Points or pass through Albertville, you will find an interesting spread of legends, tales, and scary stories to tease your sensibilities.
In Five Points, close to a couple of decades ago, a school bus carrying a load of children was traveling along the road on its way home. As they passed over a set of railroad tracks, the bus became stuck where a train hit them. Every child on the bus was killed. A legend surrounding the city deals with a strange tale that is said to happen on a cold night. It is said that if you have dew on the back of your car or place flour about the vehicle, odd events will happen if you park your car on top of the train tracks. Some witnesses swear that you will soon feel as if someone is trying to push your car from the tracks. If you pull up to a light and inspect your car, it is said that small handprints appear on your car.
The Sweetwater Plantation is situated in Florence, which is a site that has a few odd occurrences take place on the premises. For starters, music is known to play occasionally from an old piano located in the parlor where the former governor that ruled the area during the late 1800s once entertained visitors. The caretaker of the plantation tells a tale about a light on the second floor being turned on one night, as well as faucets acting up when she was trying to sleep. No one was responsible for the events so she believes it may have been a ghost.
In Fort Defiance, the Tse Ho Tso Middle School can be found where the school gym is believed haunted by the ghosts of more than one child, who passed away when a fire broke out in the building. Most of the paranormal activity is said to take place in the girls’ locker room, where benches have been known to move, while lockers open and close with a violent swish. The showers, faucets, and toilets also turn on and off without the help of others. Sometimes, the locker room will fill with unexplainable voice and laughter.
In Albertville, the Alabama Avenue Middle School showcases paranormal activity when night has fallen. Doors will slam and lights tend to flicker on and off. Some students have found that after locking their lockers, they will return and find that they have been unlocked. Sometimes, the sound of kids fills the hallways, even though no one is in the vicinity.
With a history that can be traced back to 1891, the Old Dallas Mill Site suffered a fire in 1992 and was irreparably burned. It is said that a man who lost his life when he was cleaning the smoke stacks a little after the mill was erected, now haunts the site. When the mill burned down, a homeless individual was found inside, which decided not to leave the area in the afterlife. Some claim to have seen him roaming about the ruins of the mill.
