In the latest teaser for the Disney movie ‘Maleficent,’ we get to learn more disturbing details about the dark character whose pair of evil-looking horns atop her head is making headlines. Played by Angelina Jolie, the character is one that the movie will focus on the most, using her to tell the Sleeping Beauty tale from her perspective. In addition to having a dark personality and horns, the character also has a pair of malicious-looking wings (as seen in the latest trailer for the movie)…and now Jolie has a plan to create children’s clothing inspired by this character and the movie.
Jolie is a mother of six children, and even has her own daughter playing the role of a young Aurora in the movie, and somewhere along the line…she got an idea to create a line of kiddie clothes that would allow children to look like some of the characters in the film, including the disturbing Maleficent herself. Joining her in this quest to create scary little replicas of the movie’s villain is Stella McCartney – an already well-established fashion designer, who also happens to be the daughter of Beatle John McCartney.
Referred to as the capsule collection called Maleficent, the clothing line will become an addition to the designer’s line known as Stella McCartney Kids. There will be eight designs that include clothing styles for both girls and boys. Two outfits planned for the collection include the fashions pictured in this article. In addition to these, the collection will also incorporate princess dresses, T-shirts, sandals and sneakers.
The designer McCartney is quoted as saying, “There is a bit of a darkness to ‘Maleficent’ which can be really scary at times but at the same time visually brilliant.” This isn’t the first time the designer has worked on a Disney-related project. She also designed costume jewelry for Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland.’
As you can see, young girls can look forward to flashy, strapless purple dress is accompanied by a matching purple horned headpiece. For boys, a dragon design is seen across one of the shirts, where the model is seen with a pair of grey-black wings, and an odd-looking horned headpiece as well.
Not only are the featured outfits a little disturbing for young children, but the price tags are also a bit too much for the average public to indulge in – ranging from $75 to $185. Just in time to celebrate the release of ‘Maleficent’ on May 30, the kid’s clothing will be available in Disney stores around the end of April. Purchases can also be made online, and at Stella McCartney stores across the globe.
The complete project isn’t a complete bust. Although children will be encouraged to embrace the kind of horned symbolism that is often associated with evil and the Devil, some of the proceeds from sales of the clothing will benefit SOS Children’s Villages, which provides home for children in need.
