In South Africa, Moses Sithole is known as one of the most infamous serial killers in history. His reign of terror started, continued and was completed in towns called Atteridgeville, Boksburg and Cleveland , a suburb of Johannesburg. Because of this, his crimes were known as the ‘ABC Murders.’ Luring his victims into isolated fields, he would overpower them, rape, and then kill them.
Moses Sithole
Sithole started to rape women during his 20s. He raped three women until one testified against him, which sent him to prison. During his incarceration, he was sexually assaulted by other prisoners and shortly after his release, he went on a murdering spree that started in 1994. Sithole was captured in August of 1995 and was convicted in 1997. The result left him with a sentence of 2,410 years with the possibility of parole in 930 years. It is believed that he is responsible for 38 or so murders, and about 40 rapes.
Facts
It is said that when Sithole was 5 years old, his father died and his mother abandoned the family. He and his siblings were sent to an orphanage, where he claims to have suffered mistreatment. He decided to run away and after he found his mother, he says she sent him back to live at the orphanage.
While in prison, it was reported in 2000 that Sithole had contracted AIDS.
Sithole would actually call some of the family members of his victims and taunt them.
Posing as a businessman, Sithole would use this tactic to gain the trust of his victims. He sometimes claimed to work for a charity organization that he fabricated. He would then lead his victims to the ‘business headquarters’ where he would attack without the fear of being seen or heard.
