Some children that appear in scary movies are feared because they possess a special ability that makes them stand out from the rest of the characters. Other kids are part of a curse, while others are doomed to haunt a house or person. In this article, you will learn about scary young characters that appear in horror films, such as The Grudge and The Ring.
'Charlie' McGee in 'Firestarter'
Get Drew Barrymore angry in this film and you may have a hot situation on your hands. In the movie adaptation of Stephen King's 'Firestarter' (1985), Charlie is the product of a couple who took part in a powerful medical experiment. In the process, they acquire telekinetic ability and pass on pyrokinetic powers to their daughter. Charlie can start fires with her mind, especially when she gets upset. The government would like to study and take advantage of her abilities, so representatives quarantine the child in a secret place referred to as 'The Shop.'
Toshio in 'The Grudge'
A nurse from the United States (played by Sarah Michelle Geller) lives and works in Tokyo. She finds herself at the center of a mysterious supernatural curse. Once an individual is exposed to the curse, they become influenced by rage and suddenly die before the effects pass onto another victim. Toshio (played by Yuya Ozeki – who appeared in the Japanese and American version of the film) appears in the movie only wearing underwear. Glimpses of him emerge throughout the film, but it is his black, lifeless eyes that really get to you. With his piercing scream, the young boy is haunting.
Jamie Lloyd in 'Halloween 5'
Jamie Lloyd (played by Danielle Harris) was first introduced into the Halloween franchise in 'Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers' when the emotionless killer returns to his hometown so that he can murder his 7-year-old niece on Halloween. In Halloween 5, Myers returns one year later to relocate his niece and exact his revenge. This time around, Jamie no longer has the ability to speak – losing it after the attack on her foster mother. In addition to her current situation, Jamie has developed a telepathic link with her uncle. Michael's plan is to lure his niece out of the children's hospital and wreak havoc in Haddonfield.
Samara in 'The Ring'
Strange things happen when a certain videotape is put into the player, and journalist Rachel Keller (played by Naomi Watts) wants to know what occurred after her niece and three other teens mysteriously died. An urban legend surrounding the tape says that anyone who views it will die within seven days. At the center of the legend are the circumstances concerning a young girl named Samara who seems to terrorize the people that view the tape. Unfortunately, Rachel and her son have watched the tape and she must race against time to save their lives. In one memorable scene, Samara crawls out of the television screen on her hands and knees, and has climbed the walls in another scene. The film was quite popular and within the first 24 hours of its video release, more than two million DVD copies were sold in the United States alone.
