For the Halloween season, it's common to see the typical scary characters make an appearance at a haunted house or other spooky attraction. In Ulster Park, the iconic Headless Horseman is one of the main stars of the show. If you're ever in the historic Hudson Valley region, you should pay a visit to Ulster Park in New York, where you will find the Headless Horseman among other scary features. There are more than 45 acres at the disposal of property owners, who have found creative ways to incorporate the landscaped region into a haunted watering hole. Combining theatrics, special effects, and the natural surroundings of woods, ponds, and fruit orchards Ã¢â‚¬â€œ visitors are scared out of their wits.
The effort has paid off, as the haunted attraction has ranked high with many reputable parties, including CNBC, AOL, USA Today, and Fangoria Magazine. The hayride got top accolades from American Airlines Magazine, while it was called the #1 Haunted Attraction in the country by Haunt World Magazine. So, what exactly can you expect with this attraction?
When planning a trip to the Headless Horseman, you will encounter a 1-mile hayride, five professionally designed haunted houses, four food stands, and a labyrinth-style corn maze. Some of the biggest draws to the attraction are how professional the lighting, costume, sound, set design, special effects, and make-up is. You may also want to stop by one of the gift shops Ã¢â‚¬â€œ aptly named Ghoulish Gifts, Magic Moon Gifts, Scarewear and Witchy Woman. Added this year is the Dead Memories Photo Experience.
Some of the attractions to look forward to include Night Shade Nursery and Greenhouse haunted house, Evil Reaping Dark Harvest hayride, and Lunar Motel Vacancy haunted house. The attractions are open to the public from Thursday to Sunday. Nightly entertainment also takes place at Headless Horseman event, including the youngest female sword swallower in the world.
Tickets cost $33, while you can enjoy the midway for free. If you are receiving an inhouse ticket or have purchased online, tickets are picked up at the ticket window. After you pass through the security line, you will enter the midway. The hayride is the first thing you will experience. The first hayride of the night starts at 7 p.m. When the hayride ends, it drops you off at the Lunar Motel Haunted House. The frights for the night continues onto the Glutton's Slaughter House, Dark Harvest Cornmaze, Night Shade Greenhouse, and The Feeding. Finally, you will reach an exit that takes you to the last haunted house (Dahlia Bloods), which ends at the midway, where you can purchase food if you like.
