A world record has been set in one of Moscow gyms today. A nine-year-old boy Pavel Guseinov did 9,263 push-ups non-stop in 6 1/2 hours. The new record was put in the Guinness Book of World Records, the Moskovsky Komsomolets newspaper wrote.

The previous record also belonged to a nine-year-old boy from South Ossetia. Pavel Guseinov beat the former champion – international judges documented the process. As a result of such a long physical exercise, hard callosities developed on the boy’s palms, the newspaper wrote.

“It was strange to see the boy doing the push-ups for such a long period of time. Adults get tired very quickly, but Pavel exercised outstanding stamina,” eyewitnesses say. “In three hours of the exercise he had a sudden burst of energy. When the process was coming to its end, Pavel started doing the push-ups on his fingers. He was showing it was not hard for him to work out at all. Specialists, however, told him to continue on his fists. Conditions stipulated that the boy had to do the push-ups on his fists.”

Pavel could take a five-minute break every hour to drink, breathe and use the bathroom. However, the boy did not use this right during the second hour of the exercise. He asked for a ten-minute break later: Pavel wanted to call his mother.

Pavel Guseinov’s parents encouraged their son on the telephone. His senior sister was present in the gym, counting her little brother’s push-ups.

None of the boy’s family members go in for sports, although the boy does the push-ups regularly. “He would sit down and watch TV, but all of a sudden he would fall down on the floor and start doing it. He just loves this exercise, his parents do not allow him do it at times, but he continues secretly anyway,” Pavel’s relatives say.

The Guseinovs experience a difficult financial situation in the family at the moment. The boy’s accomplishment, however, has brought him the sponsorship support. Sponsors will help Pavel join a sports school: the boy decided to do weight-lifting.

“I am not sure yet, but I definitely want to become strong to defend those who weak,” said the boy.
