Six years after the now famous Betty and Barney Hill abduction, another family experienced a series of incidents very similar in nature. The family involved was known as credible witnesses who would not have likely simply made up an incident such as this one. And as the years went on their experience would prove all the stranger as each witness came forward with one of the earliest and yet most forgotten cases of alien abduction from a home.
Andreasson said that the events began at her home in Ashburnham, Mass., when suddenly she spotted a strange unearthly beam of light descending on the yard outside. And bathed in this bizarre light, which at that time was not normally associated with much more than helicopters and spotlights, she and her father saw several strange beings “hopping” toward the house. As they watched, the creatures got closer to the house and eventually they suddenly found themselves entranced as if hypnotized by the strangeness of the situation. The creatures walked straight through their front door and approached them. Four of the entities were approximately four feet tall with the fifth being a full foot taller than the others. As with so many contemporary cases, the tallest one was seen as the leader of the group and commanded the others by some unexplained telepathic means.
Shortly after receiving a brief examination at their home, Betty was taken aboard a strange craft and subjected to several mysterious tests. Eventually she felt as though her entire consciousness had been altered by the experience. As they continued, she began feeling a spiritual awakening taking hold from within her own mind and she reported feeling closer to the universe than ever before. Perhaps one of the strangest elements of the story was the fact that the witnesses did not report the entities walking. In fact, they remembered that their form of locomotion within the house continued to get stranger as the experience went on. Initially the creatures were seen hopping toward the house, but eventually commenced hovering from place to place as they examined the family.
Their physical description was eerily similar to the greys reportedly seen at so many contemporary abductions, but differed in a few ways. For one, they did have ears, though these ears were reportedly very small. Additionally, they had small noses as well. In fact many UFO abduction reports from the era would report that the entities involved did have ears and noses, though they were always very small.
The event ended with Betty being returned to her home with only partial memories of the experience. It was only after several sessions of regressive hypnosis that she was able to fully determine the extent of what went on once she entered the craft. Of course what precisely these experiments were intended to observe or prove is a matter we can now only speculate on. Dr. J Allen Hynek, who would eventually work with hundreds of abductees was one of the first of his kind to uncover cases such as these including the incident experienced by Betty Andreasson and her family.
