The attendees at Bakersfield High School have a handful of unexplainable and paranormal occurrences that take place on the premises. For starters, there have been reports centered on the apparitions of a young couple that seem around 16 to 18 years of age. The female is dressed in a prom dress and the male is sporting a football jacket with “BHS” etched into the back. An odd chill overcomes you when you enter the domain of the teens. Some claim the feeling of being watched by another. Usually, they appear close to the top of the bleachers of the high school gym.
Harvey Auditorium of this same school is supposedly haunted by the ghost of a worker who fell to his death from the rafters and ended up in the basement. Rumor has it that many other ghosts claim this space as their own. The high school also possesses a location known as “the Quad,” which has a rather haunted reputation. In the past, a hospital used to share the same grounds as the school, where body parts were buried in the quad after successful operations.
Take a walk through the Central Park of Bakersfield and you will encounter a female ghost wearing a long robe that can be seen wading through the canal at dawn. She is said to have spent all of her life in the city until she was killed. The killer buried her bones in the old foundry located across from the park, which were uncovered when the floor was dismantled. Those who found her bones also pinpointed bullet holes in the floor.
Spend a bit of time at Club Paradise and you may encounter some of the apparitions that past visitors have claimed to see. Employees have also had their fair share of ghosts on the premises, as they have been locked inside the storeroom from the inside and have experience being pushed while in the hallway of the bar room. Customers have also reported being grabbed and fondled in the same hallway. Sometimes, objects move on their own.
One moment, an unfortunate car accident took place in Garces Circle, joining the many others that have occurred as well. To this day, people swear they view the hands of a statue in the vicinity move or can hear it muttering a prayer for the deceased.
In 1882, the Norris School was constructed and for some reason , the unexplainable tapping of chalk across a chalkboard can be heard when nothing is in sight. Today, the building serves as the Kern County Museum.
As soon as you enter the foyer doors of the former Padre Hotel, people claim that strange feelings overcome their presence, which has made this city landmark building one of the most haunted in the region. It has since been turned into a collection of office buildings and condos.
