I remember vividly the joy we experienced when we brought our brand new, twin baby boys home from the hospital to our rental home. Even though we had serious reservations about the place in which we resided, since we had a very limited income, we had no choice. For a while after they were released from the hospital, it seemed as if the paranormal activity that we had been experiencing had calmed down a little.
When the boys were a couple of weeks old, my husband and I began to notice strange occurrences again. The ceiling fans shook violently, the foul smells began again in the bathroom…it was becoming a little overwhelming to me. Finally, we asked a priest to come over and bless the house. He did so, but cautioned us that he felt a sinister presence in the house, as well, and recommended us finding a new place to live. He suggested that we should hang crosses on the walls, in symbol of our faith, possibly even placing one above each bed.
I decided to take his suggestion. Since we did not have much money, I decided to make crosses out of construction paper. While my husband was gone the next day, I placed paper crosses over each one of our beds. Much to my surprse, when I placed the last cross, over my daughter’s bed, every clock in the house fell off of the walls. (There were 5 wall clocks throughout the house, by the way.)
Terrified, I grabbed the kids and ran outside to sit in our van until my husband returned home. When I told him what had happened, he went into the house to investigate. Sure enough, all of the clocks were still on the floor…and they had all stopped at exactly 12:12.
Since we had no place else to go, he calmed me down and we took the children back inside the house. After we ate dinner, we got the kids ready for bed, as usual. Tonight, however, we decided that we were going to stay up and keep a close eye on the situation in the house.
After finishing up the dishes, I went into our bedroom to watch television with Mike and unwind. Within about ten minutes, I smelled gas. When I asked him if he noticed it, he said that he did. So we went out into the kitchen to investiage.
Right away, we noticed that one of the burners had been left on, and the flame was out. That problem was easily fixed. We turned the knob on the stove, and went to check to make sure that the children were okay.
Our oldest son and daugher were sleeping like angels. When we rounded the corner and walked into the nursery to check on the babies we stopped in the doorway, stunned. We could not believe our eyes.
Both babies were sleeping soundly, snuggled under their blankets. The disturbing thing is that the apnea monitors that they always wore around their chest against their skin were both lying side by side on the floor next to the cribs. And the monitors were turned off.
Mike and I picked up the babies, grabbed the two older kids and went to a motel for the night. Unfortunately, since we still did not have any place else to go, we had to return home. I wish I could say that the worst was behind us.
But that would be lying….
