White River Light
In Whitehall, Michigan, you will supposedly find a ghost at White River Light that has taken an interest in the upkeep of the structure. It is said that the ghost enjoys helping with the dusting of the lighthouse. Deactivated in 1960, the lighthouse, which is situated in the Great Lakes region offers a museum for visitors , built in the limestone tower and keeper’s quarters. It is thought that the first keeper of the light, Captain William Robinson, is the source of the off pacing sounds that can be heard upstairs. He served the lighthouse for 47 years and died in the building he loved so much. Although he had retired and his son became his successor, he refused to leave the lighthouse and still worked at the station well into his 80s. He was 87 years old when he died.
The museum curator has also reported that if she leaves a dust rag close to a certain display case, she later finds that it has been moved and the case has been dusted. These actions are believed to be that of his wife, Sara, who enjoyed keeping the lighthouse clean. If you are interested in experiencing the energy of this lighthouse, the museum is open to the public from June to October. You can visit the structure during other times of the year when making an appointment.
Saginaw River Range Light
This lighthouse is the privately owned property of Dow Chemical Company. Out of the two range lights in Michigan, this is the only structure that is still standing. Located on the shores of Lake Huron, the lighthouse is the sight of unexplainable footsteps that no one is quite sure who is making the sounds. The steps can be heard ascending the steps and traveling throughout the lighthouse. Some say it is the keeper’s wife that roams about the lighthouse while others believe it is the keeper unwilling to leave behind his post.
