Ancient Herbs for Middle-Aged Women

Posted on January 10, 2009 By jim No Comments on Ancient Herbs for Middle-Aged Women

If you follow the traditional Chinese method of measuring a woman’s life, you’d pay attention to stretches of time in seven-year increments. They believed at the time that menopause started around the age of 49, thus highlighting their reproductive ability and usefulness in life. Today, women embrace their life changes with less negativity. The middle ages are no longer a curse. Some have also learned how to tap into the power of herbs, plants, and vitamins to keep their youthful exuberance.

Prevention is the key to staying healthy, coupled with a sensible diet and a routine exercise program. To jumpstart a regimen that keeps issues away , consider the following herbs, minerals, and vitamins:

Sage: With a reputation in the ancient world for promoting a long life, there is evidence to suggest that sage can actually mimic female hormones. This means that the herb shows usefulness as a supplement for those looking to combat the symptoms of menopause. It is recommended to drink one cup of a standard infusion one to two times per day.

St John’s Wort: Using St John’s Wort as a supplement can help a middle-aged woman calm her nerves, as well as avoid a difficult menopause. The herb also brings to the table restorative powers and fight depression.

Calcium: To reduce the risk of osteoporosis in later years, consider incorporating more calcium into your diet. Decent sources of calcium are found in foods, such as nuts, legumes, and green vegetables. If you wish to take a supplement, choose one that offers at least 1 gram on a daily basis.

Magnesium: If you wish to get the most out of your calcium intake, consider magnesium, which is found in green leafy vegetables. If you’re more interested in a supplement, you can take 400 to 800 milligrams daily.

Vitamin E: With this antioxidant, you a middle-aged woman can take control over some of the symptoms that come with menopause. On a daily basis, take 400 IUs.  However, if you are taking medication that thins out your blood, like warfarin , avoid this herbal remedy unless a doctor approves this approach for you.

Vervain: This tonic can help to calm the nerves, as well as the liver. In the past, vervain was believed to tap into the spirituality of women. After preparing a standard infusion, drink one to two cups on a daily basis.

Chaste-Tree Berries: When looking to stimulate your female hormones, turn towards chaste-tree berries, which can help with regulating the production of hormones. It is suggested to take two 200 milligram capsules or 2 ½ milliliters of tincture in warm water every day.

Cypress Oil: When menopause strikes, cypress oil can deliver a sedating effect that can tackle some of the problems that come with losing your reproductive powers. Some women have used cypress oil during massages, while others have added five drops to their bathwater for a soothing experience.
