Known for being one-half of the “Craigslist Killers’ duo, 19-year-old Miranda Barbour is charged along with her newlywed husband for the murder of a man they met through the popular online buying and selling site, Craigslist. We’ve heard the stories of people using the site for much more than just bartering a price for an old laptop, tales of criminals luring unsuspecting victims for robbery, rape, and murder have emerged across the United States…but this one is a bit different…it includes a Satanic twist.
Apparently, the Pennsylvania woman told a newspaper reporter from Sunbury, Pennsylvania’s Daily Item, during a jailhouse interview that she had participated in the killings of more than 20 others across the nation – from Alaska to North Carolina. In the last six years of her murdering tour across America, she says that the killings were connected to her participation in a Satanic cult. Police are now investigating her claims.
As for Barbour’s stance on the charges against her, she says that she would like to plead guilty to killing Troy LaFerrara in November. During her interview, she told the newspaper, “I feel it is time to get all of this out. I don’t care if people believe me. I just want to get it out.” She also stated in her interview that she does not want to get out of jail, and admitted that she would kill again if she were to be released.
After Barbour dropped the news of Satanic cult murder activity, investigators started to contact the FBI and law enforcement agencies located in several other states. The police are taking her statements from the interview quite seriously, and in conjunction, with other information that has been collected – the search is on to see if there is any truth to what she says. It’s not uncommon for criminals to make up outlandish claims as a way to get a reduced sentence or bargain for leniency during their trial, but if she is speaking the truth, then it’s pretty scary to think that a Satanic cult is traveling from state to state – committing murders…and seemingly getting away with it.
In the meantime, prosecutors are seeking the death penalty against Barbour and her husband, 22-year-old Elytte Barbour. Miranda admits taking part in the killing of LaFerrara, telling police that she stabbed the man while he was in the front seat of her car, while her husband held a cord around his neck. The couple, who had married in North Carolina and moved to Pennsylvania approximately three weeks before the crime was committed, told investigators that they did so because they wanted to “kill someone together.” LaFerrara had answered Barbour’s Craigslist ad that offered companionship in exchange for money.
In addition to the LaFerrara murder, Barbour spoke of other killings that she allegedly participated in while in Alaska, Texas, North Carolina and California. She says that she became a member of a Satanic cult while in Alaska when she was 13 years old – all before relocating to North Carolina. Online records for Barbour do show that her mother had lived in both Alaska and North Carolina at one time.
