From the longest tooth to ancient methods of cleaning teeth, this part of the body has been a fascinating subject for record breakers and cultural enthusiasts. In this article, you will learn some of the feats and human oddities that have made the record books, including information on the largest nose and longest tongue.
Teeth
The typical number of teeth that a human will grow in their mouth is 32. However, some people don’t have wisdom teeth come in, and then there are others who simply have too many teeth in their mouth. Kanchan Rajawat of India and Luca Meriano of Italy both had 35 adult teeth when the record was verified in October of 2008.
Some teeth are long, while others are small in size. For Colton Laub of the United States, his small tooth earned him a place in the record books. In 2002, Dr. Scott Harden of the Fountain View Family Dentistry in Acworth, Georgia extracted a primary tooth that measured 0.1 inches long. As for the longest removed tooth in the record books, Dr Ng Lay Choo of Eli Dental Surgery in Singapore extracted a tooth measuring 1.26 inches long from the mouth of Loo Hui Jing in April of 2009.
A milk tooth is also known as a ‘baby tooth’ , the teeth that fall out before the permanent set fill in during childhood. In 2000, the longest milk tooth extracted from an individual measured 0.9 inches long and came from a Maldives native named Ahmed Afrah Ismail. The record was documented in Male, Republic of Maldives.
Tongue
On March 18, 2010, Jay Sloot of Australia took the record for widest tongue in the world when it was measured at 3.1 inches at the widest point. The feat was verified on the set of Lo Show dei Record in Rome, Italy. You can’t mention the widest tongue without paying attention to the longest tongue in the record books. Stephen Taylor of the United Kingdom has a tongue that measures 3.86 inches long when measured from the tip to the middle of the closed top lip. The measurement was verified at the Westwood Medical Center in Coventry on February of 2009.
Nose
How large is the biggest nose in the record books? There is a claim that Thomas Wedders from England had a nose that measured 7 ½ inches long. He lived during the 1770s. Today, the individual with the largest nose on record that is still living is Mehmet Ozyurek from Turkey. It measured 3.46 inches long from bridge to tip on the set of Lo Show dei Record in Rome, Italy. The measurement was recorded in 2010.
