From love stories to tales of revenge, werewolves have been characters in an array of movies over the years. In the 2000s, many different films with werewolves have been released, including a romantic tale called “Blood and Chocolate” from 2007.
“Blood and Chocolate” (2007)
If you’re looking for a love story that involves werewolves, there is something a bit Twilight-esque about “Blood and Chocolate.” A young teenaged werewolf named Vivian was orphaned after losing her parents, and has fallen in love with a man named Aiden (played by Hugh Dancy) and she is torn between keeping her family’s secret or letting love take over. Vivian is promised to the leader of the pack, Gabriel (played by Olivier Martinez) , a man whose family belongs to a bloodline of werewolves.
Aiden is a cartoonist from America who has traveled to Romania so that he can research werewolves for the next edition of his magazine. He meets Vivian and the two immediately fall for one another. Vivian then finds herself in a dilemma – does she follow her heart or turn her back on the loyalty of family. The movie is set in Bucharest, Romania. Taglines used to promote the film include: “Temptation comes in many forms” and “Everyone has two lives. The one we show the world. And the one that was never meant to be seen.”
“Wild Country” (2005)
From the United Kingdom, “Wild Country” involves a group of teenagers that go camping in the Scottish Highlands. They come across an abandoned baby in the ruins of an old castle and wind up being chased by a pack of werewolves. The teens try to get the baby to safety, but wolf-like creatures start to come out of the darkness and stalk the group. One by one, they start to disappear or fall victim to the beasts. It starts to become clear that they must do a bit of killing themselves or they will all die. The film shows the pitfalls of a low budget, including poor lighting that does not enhance the telling of the tale.
“Werewolf Hunter: The Legend of Romasanta” (2004)
Also known as Romasanta: The Werewolf Hunt, “Werewolf Hunter: The Legend of Romasanta” offers a plot based on the true story of Manuel Romasanta, who was known as the “Wolfman of Allariz.” He was arrested for killing 13 people during the 19th century when mutilated corpses started to turn up , making him the first documented serial killer in Spain. When it was time to reveal his defense, he claimed that he suffered from a curse that transformed him into a wolf. He confessed to the murders, stating that he used the body fat to make soap. Romasanta was tried in AllarÃÂz in 1852 and facing capital punishment for his crimes. In the movie, you will see Barbara who was the lone survivor of four sisters, who decides to hunt Romasanta down. Playing the role of Manuel Romasanta is Julian Sands from ‘Warlock’ fame.
