Salem’s Lot (1979)
There is plenty of suspense to look forward to when vampires take over a small town. The special effects may have been nothing to write home about, but the vampires have been described as quite terrifying. The movie centers on a young writer that returns home to Salem’s Lot after many years have passed. He is uneasy with the strange behavior of the people in town. He starts to think that the source of the change in the community stems from a scary old residence called the Marsten House that overlooks the town. To reception to the film went well , so much so that “A Return to Salem Lot” was released in 1987.
The Night Stalker (1972)
With a personality that rubs people the wrong way, newspaper reporter Carl Kolchak has a reputation for having to find a new place of employment. After working at big-city publications, he has to report for a relatively small paper in Las Vegas. The story of his life starts to unfold in the small region that has the local sheriff, district attorney and his boss cringing at the thought of it coming to light. The strange case involves the biting of the necks of young girls, who then have their blood drained. Some theories regarding the case are that it is the work of a vampire, a killer with superhuman powers, and a 70-year millionaire suspect.
Andy Warhol’s Dracula , Blood for Dracula (1974)
In another director’s interpretation of the Bram Stoker tale, Blood for Dracula sees Count Dracula in need of drinking a required amount of pure virgin blood in order to stay alive. His assistant suggests that the Count relocates to Italy for a trip, where families tend to be ore religious. The chances of finding virgins in the region are pretty high. The Count makes his way to Italy and finds a family that offers four virgins ready for marriage. One by one, the Count learns that the girls are not as pure as he believes them to be. After the girls spend the night with the Count, they display odd behavior that catches the eye of a Communist servant. Dracula must discover who the real virgin is before he dies of malnourishment or takes a wooden stake. In this version, Count Dracula is played by Udo Kier.
Nosferatu the Vampyre (1979)
Sent to a castle to sell him a house in Varna, Jonathan Harker meets up with Count Dracula. However, he has no idea that he is encountering a vampire , a member of the undead that lives off of the blood of men. When Dracula sees a photo of Harker’s wife, Lucy, he decided that he would like to live in Varna , purchasing a home close to where Jonathan resides. As Dracula travels to Varna, death follows him. The presence of the plague is also associated with the Count. Dracula is shown inflicting with the curse of not being able to grow old and die.
