Out of all the superstitions that people believe in, there are plenty of beliefs that deal with food items, insects, birds and other living things. In this article, you will encounter numerous sign of bad and good luck, including acorns, crickets and crows.

We all know about the luck that a clover is supposed to bring. One of the reasons a clover gained so much popularity is that it was thought to protect from spells that were cast by magicians. It was also used to avoid the charm of bewildering fairies. When a clover is kept in a house, good luck should follow.

Some people have been known to carry an acorn along with them because they believe it will bring them good luck, as well as bring long life and prosperity. Some believe that if an acorn is kept at a window, lightning will not strike close to that location. From nature, amber beads are worn about the neck in an effort to protect one from lingering illnesses. Sometimes it is also seen as a cure for the common cure.

In the house, if you spot or hear a cricket, you should know that they are known to bring good luck. Speaking of insects, ladybugs are supposed to bring you bad luck if you are nasty enough to kill one. Another superstition that you may not know of regarding the ladybug, involves young girls. It is said that if a young girl captures a ladybug and then lets it go, she should pay attention to what direction the ladybug flies away. That direction signifies where her future husband will arrive.

Birds may fly into our lives and bring luck or take it away, depending on what sort of winged friend you have encountered. A sea gull may be found in your local store parking lot munching on old French fries and scattered chips, but if you spot three of them flying together over your head, you should take heed that it is a sign of an upcoming death. When married, you may want to sew the feather of a swan into the pillow of your husband because it is supposed to make sure that the man is faithful.

Crows normally bring an eerie feeling of death and ill will. If you are in the habit of counting them, you should know what the numbers mean. If you see one, it is a bad sign. When you encounter two, it is considered lucky. Three crows signify health in the future, while four crows mean that wealth is in the future. Five crows is a symbol of sickness, where six of them are supposed to signify death.

If you’ve ever seen the movie, “Soul Food,” you may be familiar with the superstition regarding fish. Some believe that if a fish is dreamed of, it is a sign that a family member or friend is pregnant. When eating a meal with fish as the main course, it is said that it should be eaten from the head to tail.
