Astral Projection and Religions

blankAstral projection is a controlled art of stepping out of the body at will. The spirit can loosen and release itself from the body during intense fasting, meditation or death. Now let’s discuss the perspectives of astral projection by two religions mainly. Does religion confirm astral projection?

Yes- Islam confirms astral projection. There are two examples that I will be giving through the texts of Holy Quran. It describes the incident of Miraj, In which the holy prophet Muhammad had a spiritual out of body experience and he traveled all around the universe. He saw heavens, hell, and its people, thousands of the angels, past prophets and above all God’s highest manifestation when he reached the Lote Tree of the utmost boundary.

Quran’s surah al-Isra and Surah al-Najm talks about His journey.
Holy is he, who carried His servant by night from the holy mosque in Mecca to the farthest mosque in Jerusalem whose surrounding we have blessed that we might show him Our signs. He is the hearing, the seeing. – Surah al-Isra

At one more place in Quran, it confirms the astral projection. In Chapter 39 Surah Zumar verse 42: 42 It is Allah that takes the souls (of men) at death: and those that die not (He takes their souls) during their sleep: those on whom He has passed the Decree of death He keeps back (from returning their souls); but the rest He sends (their souls back to their bodies) for a term appointed. Verily in this are Signs for those who reflect.

In Christianity, the Bible arguably confirms the astral projection. St. Paul talks about a man who had a seeming out-of-body experience, but whatever it was, God initiated it:
I know a person in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows. And I know that such a person—whether in the body or out of the body I do not know; God knows—was caught up into Paradise and heard things that are not to be told, that no mortal is permitted to repeat. (2 Corinthians 12:2–4, New Revised Standard Version, accessed at Bible Gateway passage: 2 Corinthians 12:2-4 – New Revised Standard Version)

These are just 2 examples, but many Eastern spiritual religions also have an abundance references and stories of leaving one’s body.  I will be covering more in future articles.
