Just when you’re told that it’s impossible that life exists on other planets, the great unknown of what really lurks in the far corners of the Solar System is still a thought in the back of most peoples’ minds. According to a former Apollo astronaut, there are indeed aliens in outer space and he wants the government to stop zipping their lips about it.
Back in 1971, when Edgar Mitchell was a part of the Apollo 14 astronaut team, he made headlines after achieving the longest moonwalk in history. Now, his name is popping up in articles, as he has declared that alien life really does exist and he’s tired of the United States government keeping the information from the public. This week, Mitchell touched upon the topic at the National Press Club of the existence of extraterrestrial life when he attended an X-Conference in Washington. The convention included a collection of UFO researchers and activists who were listening with open ears.
At that time, Mitchell stated, “We are being visited. It is now time to put away this embargo of truth about the alien presence. I call upon our government to open up … and become a part of this planetary community that is now trying to take our proper role as a spacefaring civilization.”
Before you dismiss Mitchell as a crackpot, he has some pretty impressive credentials under his belt. Despite alarming claims regarding our planet, he holds a PhD in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Mitchell stated that the sun will burn out and the remaining species on the planet will have to find another place to live beyond Earth. He also stated that the research of our time is making great strides in finding locations beyond Earth (and the solar system) for the continuation of life as we know it.
Interestingly, Michell grew up in the midst of UFO tales in Roswell, New Mexico , the location where experts on the topic of UFOs are convinced a significant crash took place. In 1947, the first real proof of extraterrestrial beings may have taken place. Mitchell recalls that the residents of the town were forced to stay quiet about the incident, as military authorities may have used scare tactics to keep a tight lid on the situation. It seems that over the years, the residents who were present that day, told Mitchell their secrets because they viewed him as a reliable , being someone who had actually been to the moon.
It’s been no secret about the way Mitchell feels regarding the existence of aliens. He gave an interview for the Times in 1998, stating that he was “90% sure that many of the thousands of unidentified flying objects, or UFOs, recorded since the 1940s, belong to visitors from other planets.”
