If you’re looking for haunted mayhem for Halloween in Pennsylvania, you may want to take a trip to Lancaster, where you’ll find two options in the vicinity: Jason’s Woods and Field of Screams.

Lancaster, Pennsylvania , Jason’s Woods

When it comes to offering a variety of attractions in one location, Jason’s Woods has a whooping nine for you to consider. At Jason’s Woods, the first attraction is called the Horrifying Hayride, which showcases the scariness of Frankenstein, Dracula, Jason, Freddie, Michael Myers and other zombies. Expect a fiery display of special effects. Next, you will encounter the Barn of Terror, where you never know what’s going to jump out at you.

The third attraction is called Pirate’s Revenge, which includes a host of gruesome pirates. When you put a pair of 3-D glasses on, this attraction really impresses.  The Mystery Maze is next , where some of your favorite baddies from the movies could be following you. The Macabre Museum follows the maze, where you’ll find an authentic 1880’s funeral hearse, old mortician’s tools, and genuine preserved human remains.

The sixth attraction is called Pitch Black, where intermittent flashes of lights reveal who might be following you. The rest of the experience is in complete darkness. Psycho Circus is the seventh attraction at Jason’s Woods, which is not for the individual who is afraid of clowns. Escape from Oz follows, where the iconic characters from the Wizard of Oz have turned frightful. The grand finale is called Lost in Jason’s Woods, where tortured souls, werewolves and other surprises await your presence.

A 5-show combo costs $25. If you can’t stand the wait , pay $40 for VIP passes that allow you to enter a separate entrance away from the crowds. You can enjoy all nine attractions for $45. VIP passes for everything is sold for $60. To simply experience the haunted hayride, admission is $12.

Mountville, Pennsylvania , Field of Screams

Located close to Lancaster, you will find the Field of Screams in Mountville. There are three attractions offering non-stop thrills and action. Whether you choose to walk through a field filled with zombies or take a tour of the grounds on a haunted hayride, there are different options as to how you want to experience the Field of Screams.

The Den of Darkness is housed inside one of the original barns built on the property that dates back to the 1800’s. The history of the 3-story building is pretty intriguing, which adds to the allure of the attraction. At first, it was erected as a barn and later transformed into a farmhouse in 1847. A few decades later, it was made into the Garden Hotel. By the early 1900s, the hotel set afire , a tragedy that claimed the lives of more than 100 patrons that were staying there at the time. It is said that the ghosts of the victims haunt the Den of Darkness. Visitors have described unexplained occurrences that have taken place at the Den.

The Frightmare Asylum is another attraction at Field of Screams, which is based on the Applegate Mental Institution is said to have been the former dwelling of neglected insane patients. The haunted hospital is filled with intense special effects and state-of-the-art frights. For those of you who prefer being scared in the great outdoors, the Haunted Hayride takes place in a custom-built hay wagon with surround sound. You will take a 20-minute ride through a haunted cornfield filled with wicked characters and special effects.

The Field of Screams charges $25 for a Scream Pass (all three attractions), $23 for a Combo Pass (pick 2 out of 3 attractions), $15 for the Haunted Hayride, and $12 each for the Den of Darkness and Frightmare Asylum when purchased separately.
