Out of the 10 Star Trek movies based from the popular television series, the first six featured the members of the original show. The characters from the final four Star Trek movies were played by the actors and actresses who starred in the Star Trek: The Next Generation TV series. Below, you will learn details regarding Star Trek: Generations, as well as Star Trek: First Contact.
Star Trek: Generations
The seventh feature film based on the Star Trek TV series is called Star Trek: Generations, which is the first film out of four to star the actresses and actors from the Star Trek: The Next Generation cast. The movie was produced in 1994, offering the theatrical talents of Patrick Stewart as Captain Jean-Luc Picard; Jonathan Frakes as Commander William T. Riker; Brent Spiner as Lt. Commander Data; LeVar Burton as Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge; Micheal Dorn as Lt. Commander Worf; Gates McFadden as Commander/Dr. Beverly Crusher; Marina Sirtis as Commander Deanna Troi; and Malcolm McDowell as Dr. Tolian Soran.
In this film, a few original cast members from the TV show make an appearance, such as William Shatner as the retired Captain Kirk; James Doohan as Capt. Montgomery “Scotty” Scott; and William Koenig as Commander Pavel Chekov. In this particular film, it is the late 23rd century and we are introduced to the third Starship Enterprise (NCC-1701-B). Conflict appears when the Enterprise is expected to rescue two transport ships from an unknown energy ribbon. Avoiding total destruction, the Enterprise comes away with a few survivors. In this movie, Captain Kirk loses his life. Many, many years later (78 to be exact), Captain Jean-Luc Picard and the crew of the Enterprise-D find a new enemy to battle, mad scientist Soren, who is bent on destroying star systems. Who is the only man that can save the day? I guess you will have to see the movie.
Star Trek: First Contact
In 1996, Paramount Pictures released the eighth movie in the Star Trek film series called Star Trek: First Contact. In this particular movie, Jonathan Frakes, who is known as the Commander William T. Riker role, takes on the role of director for First Contact. Additional cast members introduced within the film, include Alfre Woodard as Lily Sloane; James Cromwell as Dr. Zefram Cochrane; and Robert Picardo as Emergency Medical Hologram.
The movie plot of First Contact is set in the 24th century, which nears with a new crop of adversaries. The Federation must deal with a group of enemies that are part humanoid, as well as part machine, which is referred to as the Borg. The Borg attempt to travel back into time (specifically 2063) so that they can prevent Earth’s First Contact with the alien species known as the Vulcans. This is when Captain Picard and his crew must also make this warp flight, but as we all know, not everything goes along as planned and the Enterprise will face technical difficulties.
